UM, I WILL READ THAT SINCE WE OFFER PEOPLE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CALL THESE THEN RATHER THAN BE HERE. THIS IS BY A SHERRY BUTTER ON AT EIGHT 60 WEST COMSTOCK. SHE ASKED, CAN YOU DEMONSTRATE, PLEASE SHOW ME THAT THE PURCHASE, THIS PURCHASE ITEM 14 WAS PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED TO BE MADE IN THE APPROXIMATE AMOUNTS OF $4.2 MILLION AND SHOW US THAT THE $1.7 MILLION SHORTFALL IN TAX REVENUE IS DUE TO THE COVID VIRUS ECONOMIC IMPACT. UM, I KNOW THAT THAT'S NOT QUITE THE WAY THAT THE DOLLARS WERE GIVEN TO US AND WE HAVE A LOT MORE LATITUDE, BUT I'M GOING TO DEFER CITY MANAGER TO ADDRESS THIS MAYOR. THANK YOU. APPRECIATE THE QUESTION COMING IN FROM A CONSTITUENT OF YOURS. SO, UH, DEFINITELY, UM, THIS ITEM, AS YOU ALL ARE AWARE IS, UH, SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE ASKED FOR TO GET THE ORGANIZATION MORE MOBILE. IT WAS VERY STRATEGIC IN THE FACT THAT WE WERE GETTING READY TO REPLACE ALL OF THE DESKTOP COMPUTERS AT THE CITY. AND IT WOULD MAKE SENSE IN LIGHT OF EVERYTHING THAT'S OCCURRED. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT TO SET OURSELVES UP AS AN ORGANIZATION TO BECOME MORE MOBILE. THEREFORE WE DID ASK THE COUNCIL, IF WE COULD USE THE $1.7 MILLION OUT OF THE CARES PROGRAM, AS EVERYONE IS AWARE, THOSE DOLLARS DID COME TO THE CITY AS GENERAL FUND DOLLARS THAT CAN BE SPENT ON ANYTHING THAT THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL, UH, GIVE US DIRECTION TO SPEND IT ON. AND WITH THAT, IF YOU HAVE FURTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ACTUAL ITEM AND WHAT'S BEING PURCHASED, I WILL REFER THAT OVER TO SOME DEEP MALACHY RCIO. YEAH. AND ANOTHER, WE TALKED ABOUT THIS AND HEAD OPPORTUNITY ON MONDAY, I WAS JUST ADDRESSING THE PUBLIC COMMENT RELATED TO THIS ONE ITEM ON OUR CONSENT AGENDA. UM, SO COUNSEL, NO FURTHER QUESTIONS. EMOTION WOULD BE AN ORDER HERE. COUNCIL MEMBER CLIMATES, A MOVE TO APPROVE CONSENTED IN THE ITEM FOR TONIGHT'S MEETING AUGUST 27, 2020 CONSENSUS AGENDA ITEMS ONE THROUGH 21 THERE A SECOND, SECOND BY VICE MAYOR AND LOPEZ. YOU NEED ADDITIONAL COMMENTS RELATED TO OUR AGENDA TONIGHT BEFORE WE VOTE A MAN COUNCIL MEMBER WALL, UH, I WOULD LIKE 14, 15 AND 16. I THINK WE ARE OVERCHARGED AND THAT'S IT. OKAY. SO THAT WILL BE [00:05:01] NOTED IN THE RECORD. ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS? MAYOR COUNCIL MEMBER ORLANDO. THANK YOU, SIR. ALL RIGHT. SO CONFLICT OF INTEREST ON ITEM NUMBER FOUR, NOTED AS WELL SEEING NO ADDITIONAL COMMENTS. COUNSEL, PLEASE VOTE. COUNCIL MEMBER ORLANDO. YES. ALRIGHT AND CARRIES UNANIMOUSLY. UM, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ITEM FOUR COUNCIL MEMBER, ATLANTA DECLARED A CONFLICT OF INTEREST AND COUNCIL AND ITEMS 14, 15 AND 16 COUNCIL MEMBER WONG VOTED. NO. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, CLERK. AND ARE THERE ANY UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC APPEARANCES? I KNOW NOBODY HAS TURNED IN A CARD. SEE NONE NEXT [CURRENT EVENTS] ON OUR AGENDA TONIGHT, OUR COUNCIL ANNOUNCEMENTS, I HAVE A FEW AND WE GO DOWN THE LINE. THE FIRST IS RELATED TO FIRST MILE. LAST MILE COUNCIL MEMBER MCCLYMONDS HAS BROUGHT THIS UP IN THE PAST, BUT THE NEW PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE CITY OF CHANDLER, I THINK COUNCIL MEMBER, BUT STUART I'M SORRY. AND LIFT BEGINS NEXT TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST, THIS FIRST MILE LAST MILE PROGRAM WILL PROVIDE UP TO 50% OFF ON RIDES TO AND FROM DESIGNATED BUS STOPS SOUTH OF PECOS ROAD. THIS PARTNERSHIPS HELPS THE CITY EXPAND PUBLIC TRANSIT ACCESS TO AN AREA OF THE CITY WITH LIMITED AVAILABILITY WHILE AT THE SAME TIME AVOIDING THE HIGH COST OF ADDING MULTIPLE NEW BUS ROUTES. THIS PARTNERSHIP IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF HOW OUR CITY CONTINUES TO FIND IN A WAY INNOVATIVE WAYS TO PROVIDE NECESSARY SERVICES FOR OUR RESIDENTS WHILE SAVING TAX DOLLARS. AND FOR MORE INFORMATION, YOU CAN VISIT OUR WEBSITE. SECONDLY, I'D LIKE TO GIVE AN UPDATE ON THE JOB FAIR, WHICH WE PARTICIPATED IN, UH, SEVERAL MONTHS AGO IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ARIZONA AT WORK BEST COMPANIES, AAV CAREER CONNECTORS AND PIPELINE AC. WE HAD THE FIRST EVER VIRTUAL HIRING EVENT THIS SUMMER TO CONNECT JOB SEEKERS WITH CHANDLER BASED EMPLOYERS. OVER 700 JOB SEEKERS SIGNED UP OR ACCESS TO THE HUNDREDS OF JOBS POSTED FROM THE 12 PLUS CHANDLER BASED EMPLOYERS, NEARLY 600 SEEKERS WERE INTERVIEWED, HIRED OUR MATCH TO A CHANDLER BASED EMPLOYER. I WANT TO THANK OUR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TEAM AND OUR PARTNERS FOR MAKING THIS A STANDOUT SUCCESS. IT WAS GOOD TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THESE JOBS WHEN OTHERS WERE LOSING JOBS BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC. AND LASTLY, I'D LIKE TO SHARE SOME GOOD NEWS, SOME MORE GOOD NEWS THAT THE RESULT OF COUNCIL DECISIONS, WE STARTED OUR CITY AND I CHOOSE CHANDLER BUSINESS RETENTION AND HIRING PROGRAM. THE I CHOOSE CHANDLER BUSINESS RETENTION AND HIRING PROGRAM IS EXPERIENCING TREMENDOUS SUCCESS. AND THE FIRST WEEK AND A HALF, SINCE THE LAUNCH COUNSEL, AS YOU RECALL, WE STARTED THIS ON AUGUST 17TH AND AS A RESULT OF THE, OF THE $9.5 MILLION THAT WE SOUGHT TO INVEST IN OUR COMMUNITY AS OF YESTERDAY 380 TOTAL APPLICATIONS WERE INITIATED, SUBMITTED AND ARE PROCESSED A TOTAL OF 1.2 TO 3 MILLION IN PROGRAM FUNDING HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR DISBURSEMENT. AND MY UNDERSTANDING THIS IS GOING OUT IN BATCHES RATHER THAN JUST KIND OF INDIVIDUALLY. SO IT GOES OUT AT A BIGGER BUNCH AND FEEDBACK AND THE PROGRAM HAS BEEN OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE BUSINESSES HAVE BEEN EXPRESSED THE EASE OF THE APPLICATION TO BE INCREDIBLY SMOOTH AND SIMPLE. SO I SAY TO THOSE ELIGIBLE BUSINESSES WHO DO NOT HAVE, WHO HAVE NOT SUBMITTED YET, PLEASE DO. SO THIS IS OUR WEBSITE TO A CLI WE HAVE AMPLE ROOM TO BE ABLE TO HELP YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS DURING THESE TIMES. AND THE FIRST ROUND OF APPLICATIONS, WE'LL CLOSE SEPTEMBER 7TH WITH THE SECOND ROUND OPENING SHORTLY AFTER. SO WE, UH, HOPE THAT ALL OF THOSE WHO ARE ABLE AND CHANDLER WHO THINK THIS WOULD BE A BENEFIT, PLEASE APPLY. WE'RE WORKING HARD TO HELP YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS COUNCIL MEMBER STEWART. THANK YOU, MIRA, AND APPRECIATE THOSE UPDATES. IT'S REALLY GOOD TO HEAR WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE, UH, I CHOOSE CHANDLER PROGRAM. UM, THAT'S A GOOD PLACE TO BE. AND IN LIGHT OF THE FINANCIAL, UH, APPLICATIONS THAT ARE GOING ON RIGHT NOW, AS WELL AS THE, UH, THE [00:10:01] COVID CHALLENGES THAT MUCH OF AMERICA'S FACING CHANDLER'S IN A GOOD PLACE. AND I FEEL REALLY CONFIDENT, UH, AND WHERE WE ARE. SO THANK YOU FOR THAT. AND DON'T FORGET IF YOU HAVEN'T TAKEN THE CENSUS YET, GET ON YOUR PHONE, GO TO CENSUS.GOV AND GET THAT CENSUS DOWN. WE'RE STILL CHASING OUR NEIGHBOR TO THE EAST AND I'M ALREADY HEARING ABOUT IT. SO HELP ME OUT, HELP OUT THE CITY AND GET THAT CENSUS TAKEN. THANK YOU, COUNCIL MEMBER CLIMATES. NO, I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR YOU COUNCIL MEMBER STEWART. SO IF THEY KNOW THAT WE HAVE COMPLETED 72% OF IT, THAT MEANS THEY MUST KNOW THE END NUMBER TO CALCULATE A PERCENTAGE. WE'RE GOING TO CHEAT.
